Cool spot in Cupertino next to DeAnza College - with a patio and umbrellas - a great way to spend an afternoon with good food, ambiance, and great crowds. Apparently, the owner has recently cleaned up the patio to welcome more customers.
I discovered this location through moAppo, scanned the menu on my iPhone, and ordered our usual favorite Hawaiian BBQ dishes. The Chicken Katsu uses the J&J secret sauce - which the owner won't reveal the ingredients. It did have a nice balance of flavors - not too salty - which is often the problem with Asian sauces like teriaki sauce. My son does not like Mac & rice - and the staff replaced with french fries at no extra cost. They also have a low-carb option with veggies only - nice touch.
The regulars include people from Hawaii, students from DeAnza, and Apple employees. A Hawaiian couple I met claimed that this was the most authentic of the Hawaiian BBQ in Silicon Valley. After eating the food, have to agree with those local experts.
The regular sized plate was way too much food for the money; but that's certainly not a negative on the restaurant. Personally, I will order the mini-sized next time - which now competes with McDonald's on value for lunch.
